Brazil attracts $159 bn in data‑center projects as 38 GW of power requests surge
Brazil's Ministry of Mines and Energy said investors have submitted requests for 38 GW of electricity connections for new data‑center projects, amounting to an estimated R$ 159 billion (about $159 bn) in forthcoming investment. The demand, up 330 % between 2024 and 2025, brings the country's total data‑center capacity requests to 28.5 GW for projects slated through 2038. Brazil now operates 205 data centres and more than R$ 114.5 bn is already invested in existing and under‑construction facilities. Minister Alexandre Silveira highlighted the nation's clean renewable‑energy mix, legal certainty and expansion capacity as key draws, and urged the adoption of the REDATA regime to link tax incentives with research, sustainability and technology transfer.
Investment‑bank CEO Luis Stuhlberger echoed the sentiment, calling Brazil a “well of dollars” for foreign capital thanks to its commodity base, low‑tax assets and attractive real interest rates. He noted growing interest from global data‑center operators seeking AI‑processing capacity and cited Brazil’s favorable financing conditions despite long‑term fiscal challenges.
