Pastor Dario da Conceição arrested for raping 91‑year‑old mother‑in‑law in Registro, Brazil

Pastor and municipal employee Dario da Conceição was arrested after a security camera recorded him raping his 91‑year‑old mother‑in‑law, who is bedridden and suffers from dementia, in the town of Registro, Vale do Ribeira, São Paulo. The assault occurred on 23 June while his wife and son attended a church service, and the suspect attempted to hide the act by turning off the home’s internet connection, but the camera continued recording locally and later uploaded the footage to the cloud.

Police Civil investigators seized the video as evidence and placed Dario in preventive detention pending further inquiry. The case is being tried under the charge of rape of a vulnerable person. The local Assembly of God church and the municipal government of Registro issued statements repudiating the crime and pledged cooperation with authorities.
