Brazil authorities investigate travel scams totaling hundreds of thousands of reais
Authorities in Brazil have launched investigations into travel scams involving fraudulent tourist packages and airline tickets. In Belém, the Civil Police of Pará conducted ‘Operation Praia Deserta’, resulting in the preventive arrest of two brothers, Glauber Mafra de Oliveira and Glauco Mafra Lopes. The duo is suspected of fraud that has caused accumulated losses of nearly R$ 400,000.
In a separate reported incident, four women from Rio de Janeiro fell victim to a scam involving a travel agency based in Ubajara, Ceará. The group reported a total loss of R$ 38,611 after paying for a trip to Chile that never materialized. Despite receiving reservation codes, the victims discovered through airlines and hotels that the bookings were either temporary or unpaid. The agency involved stated it is monitoring the case through legal counsel.
