Brazil authorizes construction of Vila Oliva airport
Minister of Ports and Airports Tomé Franca has signed the order to begin construction on the new Serra Gaúcha airport in the Vila Oliva district. The project, funded by the federal government through the Growth Acceleration Program (PAC), involves an investment exceeding R$ 150 million.
The Terracom consortium will be responsible for constructing a runway measuring 1,930 meters in length, with the potential for expansion to over 2 kilometers. The project includes a patio capable of accommodating eight aircraft and a taxiway area. The passenger terminal is being developed in partnership with BNDES and is expected to begin construction alongside the runway.
The construction is slated to take 36 months. Additionally, the federal government has authorized Infraero to invest in the existing Hugo Cantergiani airport to improve service quality until the new facility is completed. Local authorities expect construction activity to begin in early November, following additional technical studies by the contractor.
