Brazil automotive industry shifts toward electrification and supply chain quality

The Brazilian automotive industry is undergoing structural shifts driven by production growth, electrification, and nearshoring. Projections from Anfavea suggest vehicle production in Brazil could reach 2.74 million units in 2026, a 3.7% increase from 2025.

These changes are elevating the strategic importance of supply chain quality and traceability. As manufacturers and system integrators adapt to new regulatory requirements and international standards, suppliers are transitioning from simple service providers to integrated strategic partners. The sector currently represents approximately 4% of Brazil's manufacturing industry, generating roughly R$ 222.6 billion annually.

Discussions at the XXXIII International Symposium on Automotive Engineering (SIMEA) highlighted the challenges of decarbonizing heavy transport and the need for technological sovereignty. Experts emphasized that Brazil must leverage its natural advantages—such as a diverse energy matrix and critical minerals—to move beyond commodity exports toward high-value-added component production and local technological development.
