Brazil automotive market projected to exceed 3 million vehicle sales in 2026

The Brazilian automotive market is experiencing a significant recovery, with Anfavea revising its 2026 projections upward. The association now expects vehicle sales to reach approximately 3.1 million units, a 15.2% increase compared to 2025. This marks the first time in twelve years that the market is expected to surpass the 3 million annual registration threshold.

Production forecasts have also been adjusted, with an estimated 2.82 million units to be manufactured, representing a 6.7% expansion. However, Anfavea president Igor Calvet noted that production growth is lagging behind sales due to a rise in imported vehicles and a decline in exports. Specifically, the heavy vehicle segment and exports are projected to see contractions.

The market shift is being driven by increased competition from Chinese manufacturers such as GWM and BYD, which are growing faster than the overall market. GWM operations director Diego Fernandes suggested that the rapid influx of Chinese brands could challenge the market share of traditional established automakers. Other contributing factors to the sales surge include government incentive programs like Mover and Carro Sustentável, increased demand for electrified vehicles, and improved credit availability.
