Brazil aviation fuel prices surge as kerosene costs climb

Brazil's aviation kerosene (QAV) price jumped 57.6% over the past year, reaching R$ 5.66 per litre in June—a 34.1% rise from June 2024. The fuel accounts for roughly one‑third of airline operating costs, yet the average domestic ticket only rose 0.3% to R$ 660.50 in June, reflecting limited pass‑through to consumers.

State oil company Petrobras announced a 1.9% increase (R$ 0.09 per litre) in the QAV price effective 1 May, after having cut the price by 14.46% the previous month. The adjustments follow the market‑driven pricing model for QAV, which is sold by Petrobras or imported for distribution to airports and airlines. The sharp fuel cost rise pressures airlines to manage capacity, routes and fares amid growing passenger demand of 54.9 million travelers in the first five months of 2026.
