Chicago grain markets face downward pressure amid US harvest progress

Commodity prices for soy, corn, and wheat saw significant declines at the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) due to advancing US harvests and technical selling. Soy and corn reached multi-week lows as the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) reported steady harvest progress, with soy at 64% and corn at 44% of the total area.

While China has shown a gradual return to the US soy market—importing over 360,000 tons last month—market analysts suggest these purchases may already be priced in. Wheat prices also fell sharply, driven by weak US export inspections and expectations of increased global supply from Argentina and Australia.

In South America, political uncertainty in Brazil and currency fluctuations are influencing regional trade dynamics. Meanwhile, the sugar market remains volatile as production outlooks for the 2026/27 season in India face downward revisions, potentially tightening global availability.
