Brazil is approaching a major electoral milestone as the deadline for registering candidacies for the 2026 General Elections concludes this Saturday, August 15, at 7:00 PM. Political parties, federations, and coalitions must submit all required documentation via the CANDex system to the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) and Regional Electoral Courts (TREs) for various offices, including President, Governor, Senator, and deputies.

As of Friday, eight presidential candidacy requests had already been filed, including those for Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Flávio Bolsonaro, and Romeu Zema. Following the registration deadline, official electoral propaganda is permitted to begin on Sunday, August 16. This allows candidates to explicitly request votes, hold rallies, and conduct street activities such as carreatas and marches.

New regulations for the 2026 cycle emphasize digital transparency and the use of artificial intelligence. While candidates may use paid internet boosting for their content, negative propaganda and the use of deepfakes are prohibited. Free electoral propaganda on radio and television is scheduled to commence later, on August 28. The first round of voting is set for October 4, 2026.
