Brazil begins construction of Mariz e Barros frigate

The Brazilian Navy has reached a new milestone in the Tamandaré-class frigate program with the keel laying of the fourth vessel, the Mariz e Barros (F203). This ship is the final unit of the first batch scheduled for delivery by 2029, with its launch expected in 2027.

This development highlights Brazil's growing capacity to construct advanced warships using national industry and specialized technology. The Navy emphasizes that maintaining industrial momentum is critical to avoid losing specialized labor and increasing costs. There is an ongoing push to secure the contract for a second batch of four additional frigates to consolidate these domestic defense capabilities and incorporate modern technological improvements identified in recent global naval conflicts.
