Brazil boosts Bahia road and tram infrastructure with new openings

The Federal Government delivered the first stage of the Travessia Urbana de Juazeiro in Bahia on 2 June, completing four of five viaducts on BR‑407, several interchanges and 3.4 km of duplicated lanes. The project, part of the Novo PAC, totals about R$ 229.8 million and aims to improve traffic for roughly 42 000 vehicles daily, strengthening the link between Juazeiro and Petrolina (PE). In the same rollout, 11.8 km of the BR‑020 between Campo Alegre de Lourdes (BA) and São Raimundo Nonato (PI) was paved with an investment of R$ 32.5 million, enhancing the strategic corridor for agro‑logistics and benefiting around 150 000 people in the Bahia‑Piauí border area.

Separately, preparatory works for the Salvador Light Rail Transit (VLT) advanced with four signed agreements allowing FF Infra & Engenharia to install underground utility ducts along key city corridors, including Rua Gey Espinheira, BA‑528, the Base Naval de Aratu road, and a stretch of BR‑324. The contracts require full restoration of affected pavements and drainage. Governor Jerônimo Rodrigues indicated that President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva may attend the VLT inauguration in early July, alongside other major state events such as the new Teatro Castro Alves and a hospital delivery, underscoring the broader push for infrastructure development in the state.
