Brazil boosts BPC assistance, linking it to Bolsa Família payments for 2026

In 2026 Brazil’s Benefício de Prestação Continuada (BPC) will provide an extra monthly stipend of up to R$ 1,621 to eligible seniors and persons with disabilities. The benefit, established under the 1993 LOAS law, does not require prior contributions to the INSS and replaces a full minimum‑wage payment for those whose per‑capita family income falls below a quarter of the minimum wage (about R$ 405).

A new regulation ensures that Bolsa Família payments will not be interrupted while a BPC application is under review, aiming to improve income stability for vulnerable families. Applicants must register with the Cadastro Único, submit documentation, and undergo social and medical evaluation by the INSS. The BPC cannot be combined with other retirement or pension benefits, though certain indemnity programs may be compatible.
