Brazil boosts port capacity with new electric cranes at Navegantes and Sany equipment for Aracruz terminal

Portonave terminal in Navegantes, Santa Catarina, received the first seven of 14 electric Rubber‑Tyred Gantry (e‑RTG) cranes, each weighing 156 tonnes and standing 28 m tall. The R$210 million acquisition, supplied by Konecranes and built in China, is part of a broader modernization programme that will raise the terminal’s annual handling capacity from 1.5 million to 2 million TEU and cut crane‑related emissions by more than 96 %. The remaining cranes are scheduled to arrive by late July, with full operation expected in August.

Separately, Hanseatic Global Terminals (HGT) and Grupo Imetame signed an agreement with Sany to provide Ship‑to‑Shore and RTG cranes for the new Aracruz container terminal in Espírito Santo, slated to open in June 2026. The partnership aims to create a world‑class hub that supports regional import‑export flows and positions Aracruz as a key logistics gateway for Brazil’s international trade.
