São Paulo bus driver detained by police after traffic dispute
Bus driver Edvagner Barreto dos Santos and conductor Vilanova of Viação Santa Brígida were forced out of their vehicle and detained by two Military Police officers on Avenida Casa Verde (number 700) in north‑São Paulo. The driver says he honked to request passage for a slow‑moving police patrol that was using the exclusive bus lane; the officers entered the bus, removed the driver at gunpoint and took him to a police station.
A passenger‑recorded video shows the police inside the bus demanding the driver’s exit. The Sindicato dos Motoristas e Trabalhadores em Transporte Rodoviário Urbano (Sindmotoristas) denounced the action as police brutality, announced it will file a complaint with the Police Military’s Corregedoria, and called for a thorough investigation. The São Paulo Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) confirmed that the Military Police are reviewing the incident and that the Civil Police will open an inquiry, requesting body‑camera footage to clarify the facts.
