Brazil calls up midfielder Ederson for World Cup as Manchester United deal closes
Midfielder Ederson was added to Brazil’s World Cup squad after the injury to left‑back Wesley. He arrived in the United States less than 24 hours after the call‑up and took part in the team’s first training session at the Columbia Park training centre in New Jersey, where Brazil is preparing for its opening match against Morocco.
Before his national team selection, Ederson was on the verge of completing a transfer from Atalanta to Manchester United. His agent said the deal – valued at more than €47 million (about R$280 million) – was about to be signed and medical examinations were being arranged, but the move will be postponed until after the World Cup.
Ederson’s last club appearance was on 17 May for Atalanta against Bologna in Serie A.
