Brazil CCJ approves bill requiring printed menus in restaurants

The Constitution and Justice and Citizenship Commission (CCJ) of the Chamber of Deputies has approved a bill requiring restaurants, bars, snack bars, and similar establishments to provide printed menus to customers during in-person service.

Under the proposal, businesses must maintain a physical quantity of menus compatible with their seating capacity. The information regarding products and services must be presented clearly and legibly. While digital menus via QR codes or tablets may still be offered, they must serve as an additional alternative rather than a replacement for physical copies.

The bill also includes provisions for data protection, stating that access to menus—whether printed or digital—cannot require customer registration or the inclusion of personal information in databases. The measure aims to ensure accessibility for individuals without smartphones or internet access and to prevent businesses from requiring personal data just to view prices and products.
