Brazil CCJ approves cultural recognition and commemorative dates

The Constitution, Justice and Citizenship Commission (CCJ) of the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies has approved ten proposals involving the creation of commemorative dates and the recognition of historical figures and cultural manifestations.

Eight of these proposals have moved forward in a conclusive manner, meaning they will proceed directly to the Federal Senate or to presidential sanction, unless an appeal is filed for plenary analysis. Two specific bills, PL 2829/24 and PL 4159/25, still require a vote in the Chamber's Plenary.

Key approvals include the recognition of the ‘Homem da Meia-Noite’ block from Olinda and the ‘Irmandade da Boa Morte’ from Bahia as manifestations of national culture. Other approved measures include the establishment of a National Day for Brazilian Musical Composers, a National Month for Combating Sedentarism and Obesity Prevention, and a National Cashew Day.
