Brazil federal government moves Public Servant Day to October 30
The Brazilian Ministry of Management and Innovation (MGI) has announced that the optional holiday (ponto facultativo) for Public Servant Day, originally observed on October 28, will be transferred to Friday, October 30, 2026. This change allows for a four-day consecutive break when combined with the weekend and the national holiday of All Souls' Day (Finados) on Monday, November 2.
The directive applies to federal direct administration, autarchies, and foundations. While the federal government has set this schedule, state and municipal governments maintain the autonomy to establish their own calendars. Several regions, including Cuiabá and various states like Rio de Janeiro and Ceará, have already opted to move the day to Friday to create a long weekend.
Essential services, including health, security, waste collection, and water supply, must remain operational throughout the period. In Cuiabá, specific 24-hour emergency health units will remain active, while specialized medical centers will suspend non-emergency services.
