Brazil celebrates National Writer's Day, stressing literature's educational impact and book credibility

Brazil marked National Writer's Day on July 25, highlighting the role of literature in fostering critical thinking, empathy and civic awareness. Writer Isa Colli argued that books act as bridges between imagination and reality, helping readers develop reflective and socially aware mindsets.

At the same time, experts debated whether publishing a book still signals authority in an era of abundant AI‑generated content. A study cited by the NBER showed monthly e‑book releases on Amazon rising from about 100,000 in 2022 to roughly 300,000, with AI‑produced material accounting for more than 60% of recent titles. Brazil's publishing sector reported sales of 185 million printed copies in 2025 and revenue of R$ 4.5 billion, a 3.3% real growth. Industry leaders said a book remains a valuable tool for credibility and long‑term influence despite the digital shift.
