Brazil celebrates World Cotton Day and its global market leadership

The Brazilian cotton sector is celebrating World Cotton Day, marked by the ‘Naturalmente Presente’ campaign launched by Abrapa’s (Brazilian Association of Cotton Producers) ‘Sou de Algodão’ program. The initiative aims to highlight cotton as a vital element of Brazil’s economy and culture rather than just a commodity.

Brazil currently holds a prominent position in the global market as the world’s largest exporter and the third-largest producer of cotton fiber. The country’s competitive advantage is driven by a highly technological and verticalized production chain, ensuring quality control from planting to processing.

Sustainability is a key focus for the sector. Much of the production is concentrated in the Cerrado region and utilizes rain-fed farming, which reduces pressure on water resources. Additionally, the Responsible Brazilian Cotton (ABR) certification, in place since 2012, has certified 79% of Brazilian cotton for the 2024/2025 harvest.
