Brazil central bank launches crypto threat alert system

The Central Bank of Brazil is implementing a real-time cryptocurrency threat alert system developed in partnership with blockchain security firm Hypernative. The system is designed to connect banks and domestic exchanges to help financial institutions identify, track, and respond to cyberattacks, particularly when stolen funds are moved from traditional banking systems into the crypto market.

Integration of the tool is expected to begin within two weeks, with major exchanges such as Foxbit and Mercado Bitcoin participating in the rollout. The initiative follows a July 2025 cyberattack where criminals stole approximately $180 million and used cryptocurrency to facilitate the movement of funds.

In addition to the real-time monitoring system, Brazil will implement a requirement starting in January 2027 for a 24-hour preventive hold on qualifying cryptocurrency transfers exceeding $10,000.
