Brazil Central Bank Says No Guidance on Future Selic Moves After Recent Rate Cut
President Gabriel Galípolo told reporters on 25 June that the Banco Central does not provide market guidance and “não há sinalização sobre os próximos passos” of the Copom, whose next decision will be taken in August after the next 40 days of economic data. The committee had recently reduced the Selic rate to 14.25% and raised its 2027 inflation forecast to 3.7%, while keeping a qualitative risk‑balance that points to upside‑side inflation pressures.
The central bank acknowledged that the June‑month communiqué was overly detailed, causing confusion, and reiterated that its role is not to generate consensus among market participants. Despite stronger market expectations of further cuts, Galípolo warned that guidance could undermine monetary policy effectiveness and that any future moves will depend on incoming data, including lower oil prices and domestic consumption trends.
