Brazil Chamber evaluates automatic electricity tariff for retirees

The Brazilian Chamber of Deputies is evaluating Bill 1876/26, which proposes the automatic inclusion of retirees and pensioners from the General Social Security Regime (RGPS) into the Social Electricity Tariff (TSEE). The bill aims to simplify access for those receiving up to one minimum wage by removing the requirement for prior registration in the Unified Registry (CadÚnico).

To qualify, the beneficiary must be the account holder or part of the household responsible for the electricity bill, while adhering to consumption limits set by energy sector regulations. The implementation would rely on data integration between the National Social Security Institute (INSS) and electricity distributors, ensuring compliance with personal data protection laws.

Proposed by Deputy Pompeo de Mattos, the legislation seeks to reduce bureaucratic hurdles for economically vulnerable citizens whose income is already verified. The bill will undergo analysis by several committees, including those focused on Mines and Energy, Social Security, Finance and Taxation, and Constitution and Justice, before proceeding to the Senate.
