Brazil Chamber of Deputies advances national elderly caregiver program

The Chamber of Deputies' Committee on the Defense of the Rights of the Elderly has approved a proposal to establish a national program for elderly caregivers. The initiative specifically targets individuals living in remote regions, rural areas, and communities with difficult access to services.

The program aims to mitigate social isolation and vulnerability by providing daily support, including assistance with care routines, medical appointments, and medication management. Implementation is intended to be decentralized through partnerships between federal, state, and municipal governments, utilizing the existing structures of the Unified Social Assistance System (SUAS) and the Unified Health System (SUS).

The project now moves to further analysis by the Finance and Taxation Committee and the Constitution, Justice, and Citizenship Committee. If approved by these bodies, it will proceed to the Plenary or directly to the Federal Senate for consideration.
