Brazil Chamber of Deputies approves National Longevity Policy bill

The Chamber of Deputies' Committee for the Defense of the Rights of the Elderly has approved a bill to establish the National Longevity Policy. The proposal, based on a rapporteur's version by Deputy Weliton Prado, aims to create a National Longevity Commission to oversee actions for elderly citizens.

Key guidelines of the policy include comprehensive care for the elderly, the promotion of active aging, and combating violence or neglect. The bill also seeks to strengthen long-term care, support caregivers, and establish a National Longevity Information System to integrate data across health, social assistance, and social security sectors.

The project must still undergo analysis by the Finance and Taxation Committee, as well as the Constitution, Justice, and Citizenship Committee, before proceeding to votes in both the Chamber and the Senate.
