Brazil Chamber of Deputies delays Traffic Code vote

The special commission of the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies has postponed the vote on proposed changes to the Brazilian Traffic Code until after the October 4 elections. The decision, announced by commission president Deputy Coronel Meira, follows a medical leave for rapporteur Deputy Aureo Ribeiro, who is recovering from a foot fracture.

Meira indicated that a potential agreement with government leadership is being sought to allow for the voting of a substitute for Legislative Decree Project 1031/25. This substitute aims to partially suspend certain National Traffic Council (Contran) rules regarding driver training and licensing. If approved by the Chamber, the measure must still undergo review by the Federal Senate.
