Brazil-China film co‑production agreement ratified by Senate

The Brazilian Senate approved the film co‑production treaty with China that was originally signed in 2017. The pact designates joint Brazil‑China productions as national works in both markets, granting them the same fiscal and financial incentives. Projects must receive prior approval from Brazil’s film agency Ancine and the Chinese state counterpart, and the financing and creative contribution of each side must generally range between 20% and 80% of total costs. The agreement also requires technical crews and casts to be composed of Brazilian or Chinese professionals, with limited exceptions, and it streamlines visa issuance and provides temporary import‑tax exemptions for filming equipment. Senator Humberto Costa highlighted the deal as a means to overcome commercial barriers and expand the presence of Brazilian cinema in the large Chinese audiovisual market, strengthening cultural and economic exchange between the two countries.
