Cuiabá authorities rescue animals from suspected clandestine kennel

Authorities in Cuiabá, Brazil, conducted an integrated operation in the city center following reports of animal cruelty, resulting in the discovery of a suspected clandestine kennel. During the intervention, eight animals were rescued. Two were found in critical condition with severe respiratory distress and cyanosis, requiring emergency veterinary care. Tragically, one animal died during clinical treatment. The remaining six animals were taken for medical examinations and diagnostic tests.

The operation involved the Municipal Secretariat of Animal Welfare (BEA), the Municipal Secretariat of Public Security, the Environmental Protection Military Police, the Specialized Environmental Police Station (Dema), and the Voz Animal Association. Investigations are ongoing to identify the owners and determine criminal responsibility. If the allegations of cruelty are confirmed, the surviving animals may be placed under the care of partner protectors for eventual adoption.

Separately, the Cuiabá City Hall has scheduled free rabies vaccination sessions for dogs and cats at two locations in the Jardim Imperial and Lixeira neighborhoods to assist in disease prevention and control.
