Brazil coach Ancelotti says Neymar unhappy with bench role at World Cup

Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti said Neymar is dissatisfied with being used as a substitute at the 2026 World Cup but praised his professionalism and respect for the squad. The 34‑year‑old forward arrived in the tournament with a right‑calf injury, playing only 14 minutes in the 3‑0 win over Scotland, yet Ancelotti believes he is fit to play a full match when needed.

Ancelotti added that Neymar continues to train hard and remains an important figure for team morale. Brazil prepares for a round‑of‑16 clash with Norway, a side Ancelotti described as well organised defensively and dangerous on set‑pieces, with striker Erling Haaland leading the attack. He noted Brazil’s historical difficulty against Norway in knockout stages, emphasizing the team's readiness to respond to any goal.

The coach also shared personal reflections on his coaching philosophy, but stressed that the immediate focus is on managing the squad and making tactical decisions for the upcoming match.
