Brazil trials Paquetá, Igor Thiago and others in final friendly before World Cup

Brazil faced Egypt on 6 June at Huntington Bank Field in Cleveland, Ohio, in the last warm‑up match before the 2026 World Cup. Coach Carlo Ancelotti used the game to evaluate several options, starting Lucas Paquetá and Igor Thiago as forwards and giving Douglas Santos his first start at left‑back. He also rested Gabriel Magalhães and kept Neymar out of the squad as the star continues rehab for a calf injury, noting that a new MRI will be taken on Monday.

During the match Wesley suffered a groin strain, was substituted for Danilo and left the stadium limping, leaving his World Cup participation uncertain. Ancelotti said the medical team would assess him the next day and expressed hope of recovery in time for the tournament. After Brazil’s 2‑1 victory, striker Matheus Cunha spoke about the responsibility of wearing the No 9 shirt, acknowledging the legacy of past greats.

Brazil’s opening World Cup fixture is set for 13 June against Morocco at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
