Brazil coast faces heavy swells and 3-meter waves

The passage of two extratropical cyclones in the South Atlantic, combined with a strong polar air mass over Argentina, has triggered warnings for heavy seas and high waves along the Brazilian coast.

Waves of up to 3 meters are expected to impact the South and Southeast regions. Risks of heavy swells (ressaca) are forecast for Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina through Tuesday, and for São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro through Wednesday. While Paraná and Espírito Santo will experience agitated seas, no specific swell warning has been issued for those areas. The conditions are also expected to move toward the Northeast coast, affecting Bahia and Sergipe later in the week.

In Niterói, the Brazilian Navy has issued a swell warning for oceanic beaches, including Itacoatiara, Camboinhas, Piratininga, Sossego, and Itaipu. The warning is effective from 6:00 PM on Monday through midnight on Wednesday, with waves reaching up to 2.5 meters in the broader coastal area. Authorities advise caution for surfers and those near rocky coasts.
