Brazil coffee certification strengthens retail consumer trust
The Ministry of Agriculture's Portaria 570/22, created with the Associação Brasileira da Indústria de Café (ABIC), sets stricter criteria for identity, quality and labeling of roasted coffee sold in Brazil. Retailers are described as a key link in applying these standards, selecting reliable suppliers and offering products bearing the ABIC certification seal, which guarantees microscopic and sensory analysis.
ABIC’s director‑executive Celírio Inácio says the program was launched to improve supply‑chain monitoring, while Antônio Claret Nametala, president of the Associação Mineira de Supermercados, notes that certified coffee meets growing consumer demand for traceability and quality, boosting confidence and fostering fair competition in the supermarket sector.
