Brazil coffee market sees retail capsule prices and commodity trends shift

The Brazilian coffee market is experiencing divergent trends between consumer products and commodity trading. In the retail sector, the average price for coffee capsules reached R$ 407.96 per kilogram in August, a slight decrease of 1.39% compared to the same period last year. This format remains significantly more expensive than soluble coffee, which averaged R$ 203.64 per kilogram in August.

In the commodity market, Arabica coffee prices fell by approximately 8.9% in September. This decline in both physical and futures markets was driven by increased Brazilian supply following the harvest, rising shipments, and expectations of replenished international stocks. In the physical market, the Cepea indicator for Arabica type 6 averaged R$ 1,590.83 per bag. Regional variations were noted in Minas Gerais, with the Chapada de Minas region seeing the sharpest decline of 11.9%, while the Cerrado Mineiro saw a smaller retraction of 5.5%. On the New York Stock Exchange, December 2026 contracts fell 17.4% compared to August.
