Brazil Commission approves ILO occupational safety framework

Brazil's Foreign Relations and National Defense Commission (CRE) has approved the text for International Labour Organization (ILO) Convention 187. This convention focuses on a promotional framework for occupational safety and health (OSH).

The agreement aims to improve working conditions and reduce health risks for workers through the creation and implementation of national policies, systems, and programs. It encourages the development of a preventive culture to mitigate work-related injuries, illnesses, and deaths.

Senator Esperidião Amin, the rapporteur for OPDL 720/2024, stated that approving the convention would allow Brazil to participate in international cooperation and exchange best practices to modernize labor legislation. The proposal now moves to the Senate Plenary for analysis.
