Brazil community programs focus on environmental education

In Brazil, local community initiatives are focusing on environmental education and disaster preparedness through school-based programs.

In Andradina, children from the JUAD program partnered with the Municipal Department of the Environment to plant 15 tree seedlings. The activity concluded a quarterly ecology module that covered topics such as recycling, resource conservation, and the cultivation of native trees. The planting took place on Rua Engenheiro Sylvio Seiji Shimizu to improve local shade and environmental quality.

In Sombrio, Santa Catarina, the Civil Defense launched an educational campaign at the Alda Santos de Vargas Municipal School. The program aims to instruct students on the El Niño phenomenon and its potential impacts on the region, specifically regarding increased rainfall. By teaching risk reduction and self-protection in schools, authorities hope to spread vital safety information to families and build more resilient communities.
