Brazil: Compensation and benefits for federal legislators

Federal legislators in Brazil receive various forms of compensation and benefits beyond their base salaries. Senators earn a gross monthly subsidy of R$ 46,366.19, a figure that increased by 37.33% from 2022 levels. This amount is subject to deductions such as income tax and social security contributions.

Federal deputies also receive significant support through office budgets. Cabinet funds can reach up to R$ 165,806.07 per month to cover the salaries of up to 25 parliamentary secretaries. Additionally, the Parliamentary Activity Exercise Quota (CEAP) covers expenses including airfare, fuel, office rent, and telecommunications. The monthly limit for this quota varies by state, ranging from approximately R$ 41,612.55 in the Federal District to R$ 58,474.70 in Roraima.

Other benefits include housing allowances for those not using official government residences in Brasília, which can be up to R$ 4,253 per month. Most additional funds provided to legislators are classified as indemnities intended to facilitate the exercise of their mandates rather than direct salary increases.
