Brazilian Armed Forces launch 8th Guardião Cibernético cyber defense exercise

The Brazilian Army has launched the eighth edition of the Guardião Cibernético exercise, a large-scale cyber defense simulation running from August 21 to August 25. Coordinated by the Army's Cyber Defense Command in partnership with the Brazilian Navy and Air Force, the operation aims to prepare the nation for complex, coordinated digital attacks against strategic infrastructure.

The exercise is decentralized, occurring simultaneously in Brasília and six other major cities: Rio de Janeiro, Manaus, Belém, Recife, São Paulo, and Curitiba. It involves more than 1,300 participants representing 300 different organizations, including government agencies, regulatory bodies, and private sector operators. Representatives from 14 foreign nations are also participating as observers.

Training scenarios focus on protecting essential services such as water supply, energy, telecommunications, and the financial market. By simulating sophisticated digital threats, the exercise tests response procedures and validates contingency plans. The Brazilian military classifies cyber defense as one of the three strategic pillars of the National Defense Strategy (END), encompassing the protection of everything from computer networks and radars to military hardware like combat vehicles and anti-aircraft systems.
