Brazil conducts OECD-led financial literacy survey
Brazil is undergoing a large-scale assessment of its population's financial literacy. Conducted between June 29 and August 7, 2026, the research is led by the OECD with technical supervision from the Central Bank of Brazil and the Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM), supported by B3. The study utilizes the OECD/INFE Toolkit to measure financial inclusion, well-being, and literacy among 2,000 Brazilians aged 18 to 79.
The survey covers a broad spectrum of topics, including digital financial literacy, financial resilience, the use of financial products, and exposure to fraud. These findings are intended to inform public policies and national financial education programs.
In the context of managing personal finances, experts emphasize the importance of evaluating the Total Effective Cost (CET) rather than just monthly interest rates when choosing between credit card installments, personal loans, or payroll-deductible loans. Comparing the total cost and the impact on long-term budgets is critical to avoiding debt accumulation.
