Brazil Congress to see record female representation in 2027

The upcoming Brazilian Congress, set to begin on February 1, 2027, will feature the highest number of women in its history. Projections indicate there will be 109 female federal deputies and up to 19 female senators, totaling 128 women out of 594 members of the Chamber and Senate. This represents approximately 21.5% of the legislative seats.

In the Senate, 18 women are expected to serve, accounting for 22% of the chamber. Notably, the Federal District will become the first federative unit to have all three Senate seats occupied by women, following the election of Damares Alves, Michelle Bolsonaro, and Bia Kicis. The election of 12 women to the Senate in a single cycle also marks a record.

Regarding party composition, the Federação Brasil da Esperança (PT, PCdoB, and PV) elected 88 deputies, with 34 being women, forming the largest female caucus among the political forces. The Liberal Party (PL) will hold the largest overall party caucus with 121 deputies and 29 senators, totaling 150 parliamentarians.
