Brazil considers new legislative proposals for school safety and cattle traceability
The Brazilian Chamber of Deputies is reviewing two distinct legislative proposals aimed at increasing safety and technological integration in key sectors.
Bill 1240/26 proposes mandatory GPS tracking for all school transport vehicles. Under this law, service providers would be required to offer real-time location access to parents, legal guardians, or educational institutions via digital platforms. The equipment would be a prerequisite for annual vehicle licensing, and providers would need to maintain route and monitoring data for at least 90 days. The bill includes provisions for federal financing to help small businesses and autonomous drivers modernize their fleets.
Separately, Bill 3332/26 seeks to establish the National Policy for Technological Innovation Training for Individual Bovine Traceability (PNCIT). This initiative aims to support family farmers and small producers in adopting individual cattle tracking systems, which act as a digital identity for animals from birth to slaughter. The policy would be implemented in five stages, including technical training and financial support for electronic identification devices. The proposal prioritizes rural women and producers in the Legal Amazon to ensure small-scale farmers can meet international market requirements, such as those set by the European Union, without being excluded from the formal beef market.
