Brazil consumer confidence falls as elections approach

A survey by the National Confederation of Trade (CNC) shows the consumer confidence index in Brazil's northern state of Roraima slipped to 107.9 points in July, a 0.5% decline from June and 6.3% lower than a year earlier. The drop marks the fourth consecutive month of falling expectations, though the index remains above the 100‑point threshold that signals overall optimism. Roraima also slipped from 13th to 14th place in the national ranking.

Nationally, Brazilians remain cautious about the future despite positive assessments of current employment, income and consumption. The upcoming general elections in October are intensifying economic concerns, with a Nexus poll indicating that 26% of respondents avoided buying products in the past two years because company owners or executives held political views they disagreed with. Economic conditions, alongside public safety and health, are shaping voter priorities.

Fecomércio‑RR officials, including president Ademir dos Santos and economist Fábio Martinez, note that the mixed outlook requires merchants to monitor consumer sentiment closely and adjust strategies to sustain confidence ahead of key sales periods.
