Brazil July 2026 Confidence Indices Show Mixed Trends
Brazil’s consumer confidence fell to 88.3 points in July, the lowest level since March 2026, slipping 0.4 point. The drop was driven by a 2.6‑point decline in the Index of Current Situation to 84.4, while the Index of Expectations rose 1.1 point to 91.5. High household debt, delinquency and a 14.25 % annual interest rate were cited as the main pressures, and confidence among families earning up to R$2,100 fell 10.5 points.
In contrast, the Construction Confidence Index rose 0.8 point to 92.5, with its current‑situation component gaining 1.5 points to 92.1 and expectations edging up 0.1 point to 93.0. The industrial sector showed increasing pessimism, with the number of pessimistic sectors climbing to 26 in July, up from 24 the previous month.
A separate cost‑of‑living measure for the São Paulo metropolitan area recorded a modest 0.03 % decline in June, reflecting lower fuel prices but offset by rising air‑travel costs and geopolitical risks.
