Brazil consumer trends shift toward food safety and traceability

Consumer expectations in Brazil are shifting toward a more conscious approach to food consumption. According to a 2024 analysis by Cepea, there is a growing interest in food quality, safety, and traceability, moving away from the previous period of high ultra-processed food consumption.

To address these demands, the Brazilian Supermarket Association (ABRAS) has operated the RAMA program for over 15 years. This initiative promotes traceability systems for fresh fruits and vegetables, involving more than 80 retail chains and 5,000 suppliers.

In this context, European apples are noted for meeting these market expectations due to the high quality and safety standards of the European Union, which allow for detailed tracking of the product from the producer to the consumer.
