Brazil court absolves woman who kicked Praia Grande health unit door

The 16th Criminal Chamber of the São Paulo Court of Justice (TJ‑SP) upheld an appeal and acquitted a woman of qualified damage to public property after she kicked a wooden door at the Pronto‑Socorro Central in Praia Grande. The act, carried out in early 2024 while accompanying her husband who was awaiting medical care, caused an estimated loss of R$ 882.

The judges ruled that the crime requires proof of specific intent to damage municipal finances, which was absent. They noted the gesture was an impulsive reaction without significant impact on the public interest, and therefore did not constitute a penal offense. The original six‑month open‑regime sentence and community‑service order were overturned.
