Vasco SAF leadership restored as court suspends judicial intervention

A Rio de Janeiro court suspended the judicial intervention in the Vasco football club's corporate entity (Vasco SAF), granting a partial suspensive effect that allows president Pedrinho and the previously removed council members to resume their duties while the case remains under appeal.

The intervention, originally imposed after a shareholder request citing governance irregularities, had removed Pedrinho from the club’s football management and appointed an interim judicial administrator. The court found no evidence of fraud or asset misappropriation and deemed the earlier measure “disproportionate, premature and excessive.” It ordered immediate corrective actions, including a formal clarification of the finance director’s status, a schedule for an assembly, regularization of pending financial statements, and the appointment of an independent watchdog to monitor compliance.

With Pedrinho back, Vasco has restarted its football operations, confirming Portuguese coach Pedro Emanuel and intensifying the search for new players in several positions. The decision also impacts ongoing negotiations for a potential sale of the SAF, as investors have indicated they would only proceed if Pedrinho remains in charge.
