Brazil court orders removal of woman from fraudulent birth registration
A court in Porto União, Santa Catarina, has ordered the removal of a woman's name from a birth certificate after it was discovered her late husband had registered a child from an extramarital affair as their daughter without her consent.
The woman discovered the registration years later. During the legal proceedings, a DNA test confirmed she had no biological link to the girl, and the individual registered as the daughter acknowledged to a court official that another woman was her biological mother.
A social study conducted during the case also indicated there was no affective bond between the woman and the girl. Consequently, the judge ruled to rectify the birth certificate, removing the woman's name and the names of her parents, who were listed as maternal grandparents. The case was handled under judicial secrecy.
