Brazil court orders Unimed Jundiaí to keep autism therapy center CATI open

The São Paulo State Public Defender's Office secured a preliminary injunction from the 4th Civil Court of Jundiaí that suspends the de‑credentialing of the Centro Avançado de Terapias Integradas (CATI) by health insurer Unimed Jundiaí. The ruling guarantees that all patients with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) who were receiving multidisciplinary treatment at CATI will continue to have their therapies covered.

The court ordered Unimed to maintain coverage and funding for the existing therapy modalities, hours and intensities, and to provide, within 48 hours, individualized information on the status of each treatment, including dates of resumption and supporting documents. Non‑compliance triggers a daily fine of R$10,000, capped at R$500,000. The decision applies to every Unimed Jundiaí beneficiary who was in treatment at the time of the de‑credentialing.
