Brazil court orders YouTuber Jones Manoel to pay compensation to deputy Kim Kataguiri
The Federal District Court in Brazil ruled that YouTuber Jones Manoel must pay R$30,000 in damages to federal deputy Kim Kataguiri after Manoel falsely linked the politician to the PCC criminal organization, alleged corruption and extremist ideologies. Judge Cleber de Andrade Pinto found that Manoel exceeded the limits of political criticism by fabricating Kataguiri’s statements about Nazism, which the deputy had described as “absurd, antidemocratic and bizzare.”
Manoel, a pre‑candidate for the House of Representatives in Pernambuco, claimed he faced threats from neonazis and argued the lawsuit was an attempt to silence him, but the court rejected those arguments. The judgment also requires Manoel to delete the offending posts and publish a retraction on his social media platforms. The decision is subject to appeal.
