Brazil court upholds dismissal of worker with 88 medical leaves

A Brazilian labor court has upheld the dismissal for cause of a production operator who submitted 88 medical certificates within a single year. The 2nd Labor Court of São Caetano do Sul ruled in favor of the company after evidence showed the employee was performing duties as a pastor during his medical leave periods.

Social media images provided as evidence showed the worker lecturing and participating in religious events on days he was officially excused from work due to medical recommendations. The medical documents had suggested rest and physical limitations, such as for cervicalgia. The company argued that the religious activities were incompatible with the medical restrictions, while the worker claimed the dismissal was an illegal attempt to terminate his employment.
