Brazil courts convict officials in multiple corruption cases
A court in Imperatriz, Maranhão sentenced four individuals for diverting roughly R$4.59 million from the municipal budget of Governador Edison Lobão during former mayor Lourêncio Silva de Moraes' administration. Among those convicted was Boaz Bezerra Rocha, now vice‑mayor, who had served as secretary of Administration and Finance.
In Cuiabá, Mato Grosso, a judge found former public servants and businessman Ricardo Mário Ceccarelli guilty of peculato for misappropriating R$86,514 intended for a band and fanfare championship. Both firms were barred from contracting with public entities for ten years, and the scheme was linked to Aníbal Cardoso, who allegedly used shell companies owned by relatives to overcharge the contracts.
